We recently gained contracts from two major institutions, both of which will keep us firmly in the public eye.
The first is for the refurbishment of the Airports Company of South Africa’s East and West offices located at OR Tambo International Airport.
The 10-month project valued at R65 million will be completed in conjunction with Shabangu Architects and involves the refurbishment of 4,500m² of office space. It also caters for the demolition of work areas and ablution blocks and the building of replacement spaces and facilities.
The greater part of the work will be in the form of soft finishes, including ceilings, partitions, shop fronts, tiling and paintwork. There will also be major heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical work and fire upgrades.
The major challenge in this project is that work must be completed without disruption to essential services that could affect the entire airport.
The second contract involves the upgrade of the Es’kia Mphahlele building at Unisa’s Sunnyside campus in Pretoria. The R20 million project calls for work specified by HMZ Architects and includes the construction of four new ablution blocks and improvements to the building’s exterior involving the provision of new sunscreens and louvers.
In addition, the contract includes the upgrade of all air conditioning and electrical systems as well as providing new insulation and waterproofing for the building’s 6,500m² roof.
